HAVE A FONDUE!
A fondue is great fun!
Ask your friends to club together and help you pay for the ingredients and then have them over for a games evening - I find card games work best for this.
Or you can all just sit around the table and enjoy good conversation while dipping your food (with a fork or kebab stick) into the fondue sauce.
Yummy!
CHOCOLATE FONDUE
30 ml sugar or honey
150ml evaporated milk or 125ml cream
100g dark chocolate
100g milk chocolate
5ml vanilla essence
*optional 15 - 30ml rum or port (I leave this out)
Mix the sugar (or honey), evaporated milk (or cream) and broken up chocolate pieces in a glass bowl with lid.
Microwave it on high for 3 minutes and mix it with a wooden spoon until smooth.
Add the vanilla essence and alcohol.
You can serve this with blocks of Swiss roll, bananas, strawberries, finger biscuits and marshmallows.
Serves 4
CHEESE FONDUE
450g matured cheddar cheese (for a proper Swiss fondue use Gruyere cheese)
45ml flour
5ml garlic
pinch of nutmeg
250ml sparkling white grape juice or sweet white wine
*optional 15 - 30 ml brandy (I leave this out)
Place the garlic and grape juice in a glass bowl with lid.
Microwave it on medium for 5 minutes, until the juice starts bubbling.
Mix the cheese, flour and nutmeg together and add this to the juice.
Microwave it on medium (50% power) for 5 minutes or until the cheese has melted, remember to stir it often. Add the brandy.
Serve this with chopped viennas, bread blocks, bread sticks and chuncky fresh or cooked vegetables.
You can even fry blocks of meat and serve it warm with the cheese sauce.
Keep the sauce warm by popping it into the micrawave every now and again.
